Endothelium-derived nitric oxide is not altered in vivo in fructose-hypertensive rats (part 6)

The duration of these responses did not differ between the control and fructose-hypertensive groups (at 0.1 mg/kg Ach: 17±3 s versus 15±4 s for initial response [not significant] and 12±7 s versus 12±7 sfor delayed response; at 0.5 mg/kg Ach: 24±12 s versus 54±36 s for initial response [not significant] and 19±6 s versus 18±6 s for delayed response). Thus, no difference in duration was noted for the two groups.Following administration of L-NAME, however, this dual response was abolished, and only the transient, initial hypotensive response remained. Once again, no difference in response time was noted between the control and fructose-hypertensive groups (at 0.1 mg/kg Ach: 17±3 s versus 15± 3 s, at 0.5 mg/kg Ach: 19±3 s versus 16±2 s). The delayed response that disappeared was replaced with a transient hypertensive response, as depicted in Figure 2 (bottom).
Responses to noradrenaline before and after L-NAME administration in control and fructose-hypertensive rats:  Although there was a higher response to noradrenaline at the 0.2 mg/kg dose before L-NAME administration in the control compared with the fructose-hypertensive group (19.4± 1.9 mmHg versus 13.8±0.7 mmHg at 0.2 mg/kg dose, P<0.05), there was no difference at the higher dose of 2.0 mg/kg (39.5±6.7 mmHg versus 36.8±2.7 mmHg) or following L-NAME administration (18.2±1.7 mmHg versus 16.2± 1.6 mmHg at 0.2 mg/kg dose and 33.2±2.9 mmHg versus 35.0±5.8 mmHg at 2 mg/kg dose) as shown in Figure 3. Responses to L-arginine in control and fructose-hypertensive rats: L-arginine at a dose of 100 mg/kg produced similar changes in mean arterial pressure in the control and fructose-hypertensive groups (20.5±1.8 mmHg versus 16.5±1.9 mmHg).
